Ability to push emails from NILE announcements

Posted on 10 November 2011, submitted by Rob Howe

During the start of the 2011 academic year, the Learning Technology team noticed an issue with staff and students receiving high numbers of old announcements from NILE. Whilst the problem was investigated, we took the decision to reduce the notification functionality. We have been working with the supplier to investigate the problem in more detail and believe the problem is now solved and we have reactivated the full notification system. See the entry on the LearnTech blog.

Posted on 5 October 2011, submitted by Rob Howe

An introduction to the mobile NILE feature in the new iNorthampton app. Come and find out what you and your students can do with the mobile version of NILE, and how to optimise your module sites for use on a mobile device. If you have a smartphone or tablet, you may want to ensure that you have downloaded the iNorthampton app before attending this session. If you don’t have one of your own, don’t worry – devices will be available to borrow for the session. http://tunis.northampton.ac.uk/2011/09/26/introduction-to-mobile-nile

NILE homepage taking time to load?

Posted on 3 October 2011, submitted by Rob Howe

Does your homepage in NILE (the one which you see when you first login to NILE) take a long time to appear ? The Learntech team have identified that in some cases the problem is being caused by two boxes which are located on this page – “What’s New” and “Alerts”. These boxes pull in information from all the modules on which you are enrolled and can take some time to complete this task. Until they complete, you will not be able to see your modules. You can remove the boxes using the details in this blog post.

Innovators wanted!

Posted on 26 September 2011, submitted by Julie Usher

You may already be aware that the University’s mobile app is now available for Apple and Android devices, with a Blackberry version coming soon. But did you know it allows you and your students to have mobile access to course and module sites on NILE? The Learning Technology team is looking for innovative staff to help put this part of the app through its paces. Does your course or module involve learning outside the classroom environment – in studios, workplaces or in the field? If so, then iNorthampton could help you support your students and give them new opportunities for authentic, situated learning. We are looking for pilots to run this academic year. The team will be on hand to help you get started, and to support you and your students throughout the module – we may even be able to lend you some devices to use. You can find out more about the app at www.northampton.ac.uk/mobile.

If you’re interested in giving it a try, please email the Learning Technology team at: ltsupport@northampton.ac.uk.

NILE updates – 2, 3 and 7 August

Posted on 26 July 2011, submitted by Rob Howe

As part of our regular programme of NILE maintenance and improvements, this summer there will be two short periods when work will be completed. On the 2 and 3 August, NILE will be linked to the staff / student log-in system so that you will have the same password/email address on NILE as you will have for other institutional systems. NILE may be unavailable for short periods whilst this work is carried out. On Sunday 7 August between 1am and 1pm, the Blackboard software that underpins NILE will be upgraded to the latest service pack. NILE will be unavailable during these times. Don’t forget that all users need to ensure that their passwords and email addresses are correct – for more information on this, see the NILE upgrade page.
